Hillary graduated in 2007 from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, with a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art (with emphasis on sculpture) and a minor in Japanese. She also attended Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakata, Japan for a time to study Japanese and sumi-e (traditional Japanese ink painting). She has illustrated calendars and apparel, the children's book Crystal: Guardian of Upsidedonia by T.H. Pine, and done art for various video game studios including Wonderhill, Chromed, and Zipline Games. She is currently developing a game for the iPhone, Android, and iPad.

Hobbies include hiking, birdwatching, photography, video games, and costume making.
